Black Ant - Trout Fly

Flying ants fall onto the water in large numbers in late summer, exciting the trout to selective feeding. This pattern was devised by Barry Kent, an expert English fly-dresser who evolved this fly while living in South Africa. A red version can be tied using reddish brown suede chenille and a yellow version using cinnamon yellow suede chenille. This is fly is useful probably only once-a-season fly when you are lucky enought to see the flying ants fall on the water.
